Post your DMCA horror story here
So, I have a few myself...
1. I posted my book about 12 years ago to Geocities. They closed my account because they stated I had violated their terms of service by placing copyrighted materials on my site. It was my copyrighted materials. Ironically, it was a book I wrote titled, "DMCA".
I owned the book. Yet, I was never able to recover the website. I didn't really try. Even though I had not violated the DMCA, no notification was given - Obviously I would not send a notification to myself... Their terms of service was used to shut me down.
2. As a student at ASU, I was told to report to a copyright course because I used my laptop at the library and had P2P software on there that was not entirely installed much less active. I was told I would be expelled if I did not attend the session.
Incidentally, my Master's applied project was about copyright...
3. I created a Parody and was called by David Lawrence of Online Tonight regarding my alleged copyright violation. His people had sent a DMCA notification, which was invalid, by the way. However, I did, for a few moments... feel the fear associated with someone sending out a copyright notification.
Over the past decade, I have worked with many people who have experienced copyright notifications. I wanted to document their trials, tribulations, fears, feelings or even anger and resentement.
So, I encourage you to post here.. .why you think the DMCA SUCKS.
Soon, I will work on a video portion so we can really see how it sucks first hand!
